Basic Wedding Etiquette

February 23, 2011 -– The Finishing Touch (www.thefinishingtouchevents.com) shares tips on basic wedding etiquette. "There really are no wedding rules," says Candice Benson MBC™, president and founder of The Finishing Touch. "There are, however, some very simple things that you can do around your wedding to be courteous to your guests. They will not go unnoticed, and keeping them in mind will help to make your special day even more memorable."

Basic Wedding Etiquette

Give Your Family and Friends Enough Notice:

Once you set your wedding date, try to send out your save the dates six to eight months ahead of time so your loved ones can mark their calendars and plan to celebrate with you. If possible, also include hotel information, and anything else that will make their planning process easier. Your invitations should follow giving guests another eight to twelve weeks to make final preparations. A personal wedding website is also a great way to keep guests up to date on all of the moving parts with your celebration.

Be Thoughtful With Your Wedding Itinerary:

If your ceremony and reception are in different locations, allow guests enough time on your itinerary to travel between each location. Work closely with your planner to make sure the gaps aren't too large though, to ensure that your guests don't get restless from waiting. Your planner will outline times that will make the day go smoothly. If there has to be a significant gap between the ceremony and reception, you should come up with an optional activity for guests. "In the past we have coordinated mini town scavenger hunts or arranged for free drinks at a near-by bar for guests," says Benson. "Both were a huge hit."

Don't Ask For Monetary Gifts:

Of course we can all appreciate having some cold hard cash, but blatantly asking for it as a wedding gift is never appropriate. The real gift from each of your guests is their attendance on your big day. Keep in mind that anything additional that you receive is an added bonus.

Basic Wedding Etiquette

Write Out Thank You Cards:

Although the thought of hand writing 100 cards can seem daunting, it is always the right thing to do. Guests will appreciate opening a card that you took the time to tailor to them. It will also be another keepsake from your wedding that they can treasure. If you have a little writer's block, try being specific about what the gift was you received and what you plan to use it for in the future.

Romantic Things To Do Throughout the Year- The Finishing Touch
02/01/2011 Posted In: Wedding Planning

As Valentine's Day quickly approaches, you might be thinking of what you can do to show your honey how much you love him throughout the year. While this holiday "Is always a very special time to be extra romantic with the one you love, there are an additional 364 days on the calendar to do simple sweet things to show your guy just how much you care," shares Candice Benson MBC™, president and founder of The Finishing Touch. Below are some fun ideas to show your love any day of the year!

Write a Love Message On The Mirror: When your guy is in the shower and the mirror is fogged up, write a simple note to him as a surprise for when he gets out. A simple “I Love You” always seems to do the trick.

Write A List: On beautiful stationery, jot down all of the reasons your guy is “the one.” Remind him of everything you love from his gorgeous eyes to that smile that melts your heart to let him know why he means so much to you.

Create A Scrapbook: Gather images of all of the fun times you have shared together over the past year, and write romantic captions for each image. This will be something you can both treasure for years to come.

Put Together A Slideshow: Set to all of the songs you both love, put together pictures of the two of you on a disk and play it for him. It will be something he can even have on his computer at work.

Create a Coupon Book: Give your honey a hand-made booklet of coupons that he can rip off and use at any time. The coupons can cover anything from a simple kiss to washing his car. Be creative and think of things that your guy will appreciate most.

Wishes and Advice for the Newlyweds
10/28/2010 Posted In: Wedding Planning

A traditional guest book helps fill in the gaps for all guests to write something sentimental as it is sometimes quite a challenge to be able to greet all of your guests. A guest book also formerly helped the bride and groom remember who attended their wedding and organize their thank-you cards. However, once the above was completed, the guest book made its way to a storage area to collect dust. Nowadays, couples are creating nontraditional ways to have a great reminiscence of not only best wishes but of who attended their wedding reception. Here are many nontraditional guestbook ideas you may want to consider for your big day.

Capture your guests’ memories and wishes of your special day with a personalized guestbook from the Guestbook Store. Each guest at your event will receive a page to fill out, which can later be placed in a guestbook album. Choose from a variety of colors and designs to go along with your theme.

Rent a classic photo booth with a quick printing feature. Not only will your guests have a great wedding favor to take home, but they can also put their pictures in a scrapbook alongside their best wishes message. If you are having or had engagement photographs taken, ask your wedding photographer to put together an album of all of these great shots along with writing space. Set this album up at a welcome table so guests can write their message and also be able to view all of the great moments that were captured. An alternative is to purchase a wide white signature mat with frame. In the center, insert your favorite photograph as a couple and guests can sign around the picture.

Purchase a decorated box and display it on a table with a note asking your guests to leave special wishes. Place note cards and colored markers on the table for your guests to write their aspirations for your future as newlyweds. On your one-year anniversary read the messages with your husband and see if any of them came true. Take the wishing box a step further and create a Wishing Tree. This is a great way to add to the decor of your wedding and double as your guest book. Construct a wishing tree by purchasing medium-sized clear vases. Add colored sand, rocks, or pebbles to match the color scheme and place branches inside each vase. Spread the branches out and adorn the tree by hanging crystals or pearls. After your guests write their wishes to you on the note card, they then hang it on a branch of the tree.

If you and your fiance enjoy sporting events or a specific hobby, then purchase memorabilia that you both enjoy. For example, have your guests sign a baseball bat, football helmet, or surfboard. This can be later displayed somewhere in your house and will remind you of your wedding and memories you have as a couple. However, don’t buy an item that has a lot of texture, as it will be difficult for your guests to write on and also hard for you to read. Whichever method you choose, the messages you receive from your guests are sure to be unique and will create a great keepsake for years to come.

Spooky Ideas for your Halloween-Themed Wedding
10/26/2010 Posted In: Wedding Planning

If you are having your celebration around the Halloween holiday, you might want to consider these spooky (yet elegant) ideas that will tie together this theme. Invite your guests with wedding invitations featuring a fall-colored scheme with pumpkins and leaves. Talk to your wedding cake designer and create a beautiful cake with spider webs and bats or adorn a white or black cake with orange ribbons around the bottom of each tier for a more traditional look. Use orange flowers for your centerpieces set on top of ivory, white, orange or even black table linens. Enhance the romantic feel by scattering lots of candles throughout your reception and ask your wedding entertainment about uplighting for an additional way that you can bring in more color.
